What Is PAT Testing?
PAT Testing is a series of visual inspections and electrical tests to verify the safety of the electrical items within the business
Do I Need PAT Testing?
If you are an Employer you are required to ensure that all electrical equipment that you provide within the business is safe and properly maintained. Many business use PAT Testing as the preferred method to show that they are monitoring the electrical equipment within the business.
What Tests are Completed?
Visual Inspections
- Damage to the cable/Flex
- Damaged to the plug and casing
- Incorrectly wired plug
- Incorrectly rated fuse
Electrical Tests
- Earth Bond Test
- Insulation Resistance Test
- Cable Polarity Test
- Earth Leakage Test
- Load Test
- Touch Leakage Test
- Item Function Test
All Appliances are then provided with a label identifying the result of the test (pass or fail) and the date of the next test. Items that fail the test will be reported to the responsible person within the business and any remedial repairs that can be undertaken will be completed and items re-tested after repair.
